AAA Builders License Education
Pre-Builders License and Continuing Education
After you have completed the ABLE Prelicense Training Course, to obtain your license you will need to...

1. Fill out the appropriate license application form from the State of Michigan. For a copy of the
Michigan Individual Residential Builder License Application click here.  Or one may be downloaded from the Builders website at www.michigan.gov/builders  under "Forms & Publications".

2. The license application must be completed and submitted with the application fee, a copy of your completed Residential Builder and Maintenance & Alteration Contractor Prelicensure Education Reporting Form, and a copy of the Official Certificate of Completion, which you received after completing your ABLE course.
Make sure you copy and keep your originals.

Once the Department receives the application, it will be reviewed to ensure that the applicant meets all licensing requirements.  The requirements for licensure include:  1) 60 hours of approved prelicensure education courses; 2) be at least 18 years of age; 3) be financially stable; 4) be of good moral character; 5) submit any required documentation requested by the Department; and 6) pass the required examination.
This review takes about three weeks.

An applicant must meet all requirements for licensure before receiving approval from the Department to take the examination required for a Residential Builder or Maintenance & Alteration Contractor license.  Once the applicant receives an approval letter from the Department to take the examination, the applicant may contact PSI Services LLC, the exam provider, at 1-800-733-9267, or go to their website at
www.psiexams.com , to register for the examination. For a copy of the PSI Candidate Information Bulletin click here.

3. You will be informed of your test results upon completion of the test. If you pass (and we know you will), you do not have to do anything further. PSI will notify the State of Michigan and you will receive your license (after the state conducts one more review of your paperwork) in about three weeks from the date the test was taken.
